Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, fine and gentle!

March 5, 2011

I got this some time back last year when I was stocking up my cleansing gel. I wasn't skeptical about trying this as I've seen many reviews around, either from Youtube or from the blogging world. And my, this is really "micro" to me as a scrub!

The description that comes with it.

One thing I do not like about this is the dispenser. Look how messy it is!

Because this scrub is oh-so-super-fine-yo.. you don't need such "big holes" to dispense the product. I'll tell you more about this in the later section.

The daily microfoliant!

It does look like baby powder or some super-fine rice flour, right!

From Dermalogica's website stated that...
This unique Rice-based enzyme powder microfoliates dulling debris and instantly leaves skin noticeably smoother and brighter. Contains no artificial fragrance or color. All skin conditions.

You may find other description that describe the product like this too..
This is a truly unique rice-based enzyme powder that microfoliates dulling debris and instantly leaves the skin noticeably smoother and brighter. The powder formula activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice actives to smooth the skin and accelerate cell renewel. Daily Microfoliant is also formulated with a unique skin brightening complex of Bearberry, Aspergillus, Grapefruit and Licorice to help balance uneven skin pigmentation. A super soothing blend of Green Tea, Ginkgo and Colloidal Oatmeal calms inflammation, leaving the skin extraordinarily clear and refreshed.

Product size: 13g (I believed this is a sample size)
Product price: 75g for RM228 (Retail Price)

My thoughts:
This is one of Dermalogica's best selling products. Super-fine rice-based scrub. Just wet your hands and pour a little bit of the powder and you are good to enjoy good face scrubbing time!
And does it live up to the hype? Well, maybe yes and no for me.

Let's start with the "No"s.
1) Very obvious- the price. xD 75g for RM228 is ridiculously expensive. Maybe I'm wrong about the price but I did ask around and you may get at a cheaper rate if you are their member or something. But still, it's expensive!

2) This rice-based enzyme powder scrub is too fine! Heh! If you like the coarse feeling of scrub like St. Ives or Mint Juleps'(which I will review later on), then you may not like this one. This one feels like soothing some fine powder onto your face.

3) The dispenser. Gah! I brought this out for travelling since it's small and "check-in"-able to the plane, but in the end, I got spillage when I opened up the bottle. Ended up with wastage. *sheesh*

About the good points..
It leaves a smooth silky feel after using this product. It's a "temporary" feeling but it does feels good when you touch your face. Somewhat like baby smooth skin! :D

Also, you don't need a lot for each scrub session. Like mine, this little bottle last me for quite a while. I don't use this daily even though it sure is gentle for everyday use. I only use this like 4-5 days once. Hence, the saving of $$. Hee hee.

By the way, it doesn't have fragrance to this which is okay for me. But sometimes it does bother me abit since it has the "rice" smell. Especially when this is the last step for the face routine after cleansing. :P

Would I repurchase this again? Maybe. When I'm not tight on budgeting. But still, I would prefer a more abrasive scrub than a gentle one. =D

So, what's your take on this?

Bio Essence 24K Bio-Gold Eye Contour Lifting Serum, the Wonder Gold!

February 9, 2011

Do you believed that "gold" really does "wonders" to your skin? I did a quick check on Mr. Google and found out that it is believed that 24k gold can help the skin reverse the sign of aging. Hm.. it does leave me ponder about it.....

Anyway, long story cut short, I did bought this "wonder gold" set end of last year in one of the local drugstore (I think it was Guardian). And the thing that attracted me was that this 24K thing was on some sort of promotion that is going for RM149 (if I'm not mistaken) where the original RP is RM179.90.

I'm not sure if I'm correct on this one but the serum selling individually was about RM90 (was it? or more?).

Overall, the 3-in-1 set feels "more worthy" when it comes with a face and neck cream plus additional facial cleanser. =D

Back of the box.

So what does Bio Essence say about 24K Gold?

Sounds powerful right?

Here's the product I'm going to review today. Face and neck cream will be done at a later stage since I don't really use that much of the gel yet.

The pump that I always prefer skincare items to have.

The amount that you get.

Spot the gold!

Don't you think the serum has more liquid that the gold? =/

Tiny weany gold flakes! 99% serum with 1% gold flake? Hm..

Here's the promotion picture from the Bio Essence Website.

Product Size: 20g
Product Price: RM149 (promotion price that comes in the set of 3 items: eye serum, face and neck cream, cleanser).

My Thoughts:
Out of the points stated in the promotional ads, I don't think I saw any obvious results using this.

Well, on the good points is that it does feel lightweighted and not oily hence I don't see any "extra" oil seeds from using it. The serum does also settle on the skin really quickly and it has very minimal fragrance. I do feel my puffy eyebags firms up a little bit but I don't think I see any "lifting" on this one.

Also, it is said that it can reduces wrinkles but I don't think it does reduces the lines around my eye area though. As long as it doesn't create "extra" fine lines or wrinkles, this is good enough for me.

But anyway on the double plus point, I like how elegant the packaging looks! My other eye serum looked very "boring" but this one does stand out from the "crowd". LOL!

Will I repurchase this?
Not for now as I think there are many other eye serums that I want to try first out there. =)

So have you use this 24K eye lifting serum before? Do share your thoughts as well and I may be the only one not "feeling" it. =)

Naruko Narcissus Total Defense Mousse Facial Wash with love!

January 24, 2011

As you may know, I used quite a bit of Niu Er's product. From Skincology range and now I'm using Naruko, but not the full range of his product.

One of the product I really like is the mousse foaming cleanser.
In Chinese, it's called 水仙全效禦護潔顏泡.

And this is my first mousse cleanser that really amazed me compared to my other cleansers.

The product pic that can be seen around on the Net.

Actual item that comes with in a white box.

Side descriptions.

Check out the website stated on the box.

The expiry date that is clearly printed below the box.

The real thing. :)

Upclose of the label.

Side label.

Mousse-y cleanser!

Up close.

Product Size: 150ml
Product Price: 249NT Online Price(Quoted from Naruko's website) I bought around RM32 from a local blogshop.

My thoughts:
I'm loving it as I just have to pump 1 or 2 times to get it on my palm and voila! I can just cleanse it straight away without having the need to foam the cleanser. And it feels uber-soft and gentle on my skin! The smell of the cleanser is also very calming and light. Also, it does NOT dry up my skin nor I felt tight after washing my face.

On the negative point, the cleanser does not last for long as it sure does finish by 3 months of continuous usage (day and night). =(

Will I repurchase? Yes! especially it does save my time on cleansing without the need to foam the cleanser up. Good for lazy people! (hee hee :P)

Here's the ingredients in case you need them.

Oh btw, the box can be recycled too! To a pencil box! How cool is that? :D

That's all and I'm done with cleanser. Gotta use my new Apple-Juicy one (*hint Korean *hint) :P

My Old Lover : ZA Deep Cleansing Oil

January 10, 2011

I haven't talked about this cleansing oil before as I have other alternatives now and then. However, when Jusco was kind of having a "clearance sale", I quickly grabbed them without even think twice because...
.
.
.
.

It was cheap okay!! 100 ml for RM15 = 15 cents per ml. =P

I've double & triple checked and these were manufactured somewhere on Oct / Nov 2010. So, it's still new! If I'm not mistaken, the local drugstore sells them around RM23.90 to RM30? I'll update again on the price for this.

So yeah, let me introduce you to my old lover, ZA Deep Cleansing oil.

Came in the little size of 100ml.

The description on the bottle.

Directions for you to use them.

The consistency wise of this cleansing oil...

My thoughts:
As you can see, the texture and consistency of this cleansing oil is runny and not thick. This is one of the reasons why I love it. For me, it works great and it is very easy to emulsify the cleansing oil when water came in contact with it. As for whether it works on waterproof make up or not (ie. mascara), I only uses eye makeup remover instead of cleansing oil, hence I'm not able to tell you whether this works or not.

On a downside, because of its runny texture, I sometimes do pump more than I used to compared to my other cleansing oil. Also, it has quite a strong fragrance (that smells something like rose (i think) to it. Other than that, I'm liking the product as it does its job.

One side note:
Please use this with dry hands on dry face!

Also, after slowly (and lightly!) massage the cleansing oil onto the face, DO NOT splash water onto your face (I know the description on ZA says a "splash of water" liquefies the Cleansing Oil). Instead, wet both hands with water and then slowly massage again on your face to emulsify the cleansing oil. Repeat 2 to 3 times (or more) until you don't see the "milky" water on your face/hands anymore. Then you are good to go with another follow up with a normal cleanser to double cleanse your face. Trust me, if you do this steps correctly, you won't even feel the "oily-ness" (or have anymore cleansing oil) on your skin.

Overall, I'm glad I did grabbed the two bottles that cost only RM15 (each!). It does bring back my old memories and reminds me how much I was "attached" to it in the past (and in the future now). =)

Yes to Carrots Lip Butter, yum!

January 7, 2011

"Erm.. wassup doc?" there goes my favourite childhood cartoon character - bugs bunny, when I first saw the YTC brand name around.

Doesn't the name sounds yummy? xD

I got this balm some time ago end of last year when I was "shopping" around in ebay. I got some lip smackers (back then when Malaysia doesn't have this!) and picked up this balm as well since the seller also has them. :D

Out of the carrots, melon, etc flavour options, I picked up the "Mint" flavour since I always love the "minty" sensation on my lips. :D

Also, it's stated 95% organic, au-naturale~

Hydrate. Conditions. Soothes.... does it? hmm....
Length in check!

Lip Butter "swatch"!

From Yes To Carrots
A beautiful smile will brighten your face, but what brightens a beautiful smile? Your lips - soft, smooth and shining! Yes To Carrots USDA Organic Lip Butters conditions, invigorates, and revitalizes your lips, moisturizing to keep them the smoothest and softest they can be. With this purchase, you get all 5 flavors: carrot, berry, citrus, melon and mint. Now you'll never be without smooth, soft lips!
  • All Natural Ingredients
  • No Animal Testing
  • Paraben, Petroleum & Phthalate Free

Size: 0.15oz / 4.25g

Price: I got it around $3+ (it's less than $4) on ebay since Malaysia doesn't have it (I think?)

Made In: USA

My thoughts:
Not bad! I quite like the mint flavour on this one. It stays on quite awhile compared to my other balms. It glides on very smoothly, and it is also very buttery (hence the name!). Consistency wise, it is also much thicker than most of my other balms. Moisture wise, it is still consider okay (for me). It has a very slight sheen (see swatch above) and note it does not give any "moisture-look" like what I have experienced with MLS.

Overall, the lip butter does stay quite a while on my lips (probably 2-3 hours - under air-con room). It doesn't wear-off easily and it really does keep the lips soft and buttery smooth. If you have dry lips, probably can have a try on this one as it does keep my flacky dry lips off the bay for a while. :)

Would I repurchase this? May be not for now (since I prefer MLS which gives me a more moisture feel :D)

The ingredients that you may want to know....

That's all for my short review. I wish everyone a very good weekend ahead! :)

Clearasil Stayclear® Skin Perfecting Wash Review

May 26, 2010

Greetings my lovely blogwalkers/readers/strangers/lovers *chuckles* :P

So yeah, like finally. ;)

Here's what I'm going to talk blog about today.

Frankly speaking, I bought this due to Watson's clearance for this product. If I'm not mistaken, it costs me about only RM5 or RM6. Talk about spending dough without thinking. =)

Plus it says "Dermatologically tested". ( am I the only one attracted to their marketing strategy??)

So here you go. The description on the back of the product.
Well well, I was actually looking for a cleanser. I should have read the description more carefully this time. This is a "gentle" face scrub + cleanser by the way.

Made in Thailand?! Hmm... I actually thought Clearacil is a local product. =\

Standard packaging.

Okay, so here comes the interesting fact...

Contains Moisturisers??? Wow. I didn't know cleanser/scrub needed moisturizers. Does that mean we don't have to use moisturizer after using this product? ....

... But wait, when I read the details of the product, it says "Moisturizing agents help ensure your skin soft, smooth and hydrated". Hm.. a bit misleading huh?

Anyway, here's how the product looks like:-

On the back of the hand:-
*spot the microbeads?*

Gotten from Clearasil Website:-
Gentle exfoliating formula helps clear and prevent breakouts for CLEARER SKIN ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. The gentle microbead formula penetrates deep into pores to remove dirt, oil and bacteria. Moisturising agents leave skin soft, smooth and hydrated.

Benefits

CLEARER SKIN ALL DAY, EVERY DAY.
Contains moisturisers to help care for your skin
Dermatologically Tested
Directions for use

Gentle enough to use everyday in the morning and evening.
Wet face. Squeeze a small amount into hands.
Massage gently onto face avoiding the delicate eye area.
Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Ingredients

Salicylic Acid

My thoughts:-

I don't like it. Sorry. Here are my reasons:-
  1. Contain fragrance. But still tolerable-lah.
  2. Leave an "oily-like" / moisturized feel on the skin after cleansing.
  3. Doesn't lather up. (I like foamy cleansers, even Biore (I think) has this type of micro-beads cleanser.)
  4. The description says remove oil & bacteria --> this is misleading. Since the product is so "moisturized", I still feel the "oil/oiliness" is not taken away by the cleanser.
But anyway, I think this product would suits people with very dry skin/sensitive skin. To me, this feels like a cream cleanser with very fine beads (to exfoliate your skin). If you like creamy cleanser, then keep a lookout for this product at your local drugstore.

ps. I'm not too sure if every Watson has this on their clearance shelf, but will keep you updated if I do spot them in another Watson outlet (I bought this off from I-avenue's Watson - Penang). ;)

So yeah, that's about it. Have a good day(s) ahead, people. =)
