Kiehl's Super Multi-Corrective Cream

December 10, 2014

After 1 year long of hiatus, it's so tough for me to write a review now.

And yes, it's been almost 1 year now I've used this cream. I got this cream right after 1 month of my confinement. Just to get myself prep to work, I need all the booster stuff to ensure my face doesn't scare people off when I get back to work. So why Kiehl's? Well, I would say it's convinient at that point of time, plus since I've tried a few moisturizer that suits me in the past, so I thought, why not?

· Multi-targeted anti-aging moisturizer that corrects the most visible signs of aging
· Lifts, firms, sculpts contours and smoothes skin
· Clinically proven to significantly improve skin
· Paraben Free, Fragrance Free, Safe for sensitive skin
Price: RM 220

You can get pretty much info from their website unless 1 day they decided to take off this product which is the same as my Yerbamate moisturizer.. :(

My thoughts:
My third moisturizer from Kiehl's. It was not bad after 11 months of using it. And I still have a quarter of the bottle (because I don't slab on moisturizer at night).

My points:
+ Feels hydrated.
+ No strong fragrance.
+ Glide on easily on skin.

- Takes a while to absorb on the skin.
- Would prefer if they change into a pump type bottle. For jar type, you will need to dip your finger into the product, less hygienic I would say.

Overall not bad. But I don't know why most moisturizers doesn't come cheap. This sells for RM220. If I'm not mistaken, it is the most expensive moisturizers compared to the rest. Multi function I guess.
In terms of improving skin, I would say no significantly improves, firms up maybe a little, lifting maybe not really. So I guess maybe because I do not used it at night, hence the impact and effect was not there though.

To repurchase again? Maybe not, I would go for another cheaper alternative maybe...

One more thing, I would recommend to use up the moisturizer within the stated period (12 months). I find that the smell went off a bit now. Especially one of their midnight oil which cost a bomb doesn't have its frangrance anymore. :( But I'll leave that for the next post!

Thats all for now! =)

Kiehls Yerba Maté Tea Gel-Cream Review

April 22, 2010

Apologized for the long hiatus, lovely people. Gotta blame my slowmo in settling some work stuff going on. =)

Nevertheless, here's an update on my long-time purchase in Dec-09.

The Yerb-uh Mah-tay (As describe by Kiehls) gel-cream.

I don't know why they doesn't have it on their website but here's the actual stuff with details.

The color sure is striking. =)

Don't be alarm at the price though...

With expire date details at the bottom.

I'll show you Kiehl's version, only in lotion-form though.

And hopefully the pic below don't gross you out!

I've been using this for four months plus now. Everyday, night and day. Long enough for a review, kan (right)? =)

Here's how the moisturizer looks like.. (ignore the "reddish" hand though..)

Let's get down to the real thing.

Yerba maté , as in YERB-uh MAH-tay is actually a herb which is something like our green tea. From wikipedia, it is consumed either by itself or with lemonade (similar to our ice lemon tea). Also, do you know that it has antiobesity and cholestrol properties too? You can look up these things through wikipedia on these.

Here's some interesting photos from wiki..

Onto Kiehls facts:-
Yerba Maté
YERB-uh MAH-tay
A nutrient-packed botanical native to South America, contains practically all of the vitamins necessary to sustain life. Yerba Maté is known to contain 24 vitamins and minerals (including vitamins A, C, E, B-1, and B-2), 15 amino acids, and 11 polyphenols (powerful anti-oxidants).

Taken from their lotion version:-
With Vitamin-Infused Tea Extracts for a Healthful Skin Vivacity
Oil-Free Moisturizer
Suitable for all skin types
Helps improve skin texture, clarity and radiance
Not tested on animals

And their description:-
This oil-free moisturizer, suitable for all skin types, is formulated with an extract derived from Yerba Maté, an extraordinary South American herb, to help infuse skin with all it needs to combat dullness and maintain its healthful and youthful vivacity. Our lightweight lotion helps improve skin texture, clarity and radiance without clogging pores.

Product Size: 50ml
Product Price: RM150 ($35 for Kiehls YERBA MATÉ TEA LOTION)

My thoughts:
Compared to their Ultra Facial Cream, I love this one more.

Frankly speaking, the first impression of this cream doesn't appeal to me at all. Not only the smell is somewhat weird, the look and feel of the cream doesn't do any help as well.

I still remembered their KCR persuading me to give this a go instead of buying the full size version of Ultra Facial Cream. Well, big kudos to her for that! I literally fell in love with this after one full month of using this. I believe the longer you use this, the love will grow with this gel-like-cream. =D (sounds like I'm choosing Mr. Right.. hee hee)

But anyway, the scent of this cream grows gradually on me. It doesn't smell bad actually, just a little like raw herb kinda smell. The best thing of this is that the cream gives a matte feel and matte finish to it. Keeps oil at bay too! (*thumbs up*). I felt really bad for my all-rounder-HG-moisturizer. =P And nope, I'm still sticking to the all-rounder because Penang doesn't have Kiehls!! (if Kiehls is reading this, please do open one here.. my gel-cream is hitting the bottom soon! LOL!)

As for cons, I don't fancy the packaging. I prefer the bottle/pump type instead of the jar-types. If they would provide a spatula with this, it would be a better companion with this so we wont contaminate the cream so easily.

By the way, to use this cream, you'll need to massage the cream until it is fully absorbed. The cream doesn't able to absorb quickly maybe because of it's gel+cream texture. So it is best to take some effort to massage them thoroughly.

Will I repurchase this?
Yes! (if only there's a counter here in Penang. xD)

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream Review

February 2, 2010

I never thought I would have tried Kiehl's if I didn't go down for a KL holiday trip last December. :D Boo-boo to Penang coz Kiehls never attracted to their assam laksa. (LOL)

I got this little but very generous sample from Kiehls in Mid Valley's branch.

Boy oh boy I was excited and happy deep inside! Thanks again Kiehls! This would probably last me for many months even though you told me it would last me for only a month.

Actual pic from Kiehl's website. Also listed as one of Kiehl's all time favourite product.
If you haven't try their products, do check out their website! Very informative and user friendly too!

Got this below from their webbie too! I didn't saw this label behind the little sample jar, but I believed this label should be available in their actual size product.

Here's how my "Ultra Facial Cream" sample jar looks like:-

Even though it's only 7ml but it's a lot more than that! :D

Picture in Dec 09

Crazy right? I've used them for quite some time now ... a little goes a long way! You don't even need a pea size for this.

On my hand.

Applied.

  • 24 Hour, light-textured hydrator
  • Reduces moisture loss
  • Continuous water replenishment throughout day
  • Inspired by our original, Ultra Facial Moisturizer
  • Not tested on animals

For the following SKINTYPES:
/Sue/ I didn't know Normal / Normal to Oily can use this as well. =/

Some Key ingredients that may facinate you. :D
Antarcticine (Glacial Glycoprotein Extract)
ant-ARK-tuh-seen
Antarcticine, sourced from Antarctica, is a glycoprotein* that has demonstrated many unique benefits when used in skincare formulas. With superb protection against dryness, Antarcticine helps hydrate skin and provides it with a noticeably smoother appearance while shielding skin from the damaging effects of free-radicals. It further helps to protect skin from extremely cold temperatures, facilitating skin’s retention of natural water reserves. The organic substance thrives in the most extreme environmental conditions as a result of the cryoprotective (protection against freezing) properties of the molecule.

*A glycoprotein is a macromolecule composed of a protein and a carbohydrate (an oligosaccharide).
Imperata Cylindrica (Desert Plant Extract)
im-per-AH-duh suh-LIN-dri-kuh
The Imperata Cylindrica plant thrives in dry, excessively saline environments and is native to many of Earth’s deserts, but is especially prolific in the Australian Outback. Imperata Cylindrica’s roots contain high concentrations of potassium which provides an immediate and lasting hydrating effect. In our formulation, Imperata Cylindrica helps skin to store and retain moisture efficiently – even in the driest weather conditions. It is believed that indigenous Australians of centuries past used the desert plant as a substitute for salt, due to its high saline content.
Squalane (Perhydrosqualene or perhydrosqualene vegetal)
SKWA-lane
A highly refined moisturizing oil derived from the olive; Squalane is very silky and easily absorbed and has been found to be extremely compatible with the natural oils of the skin; we use Squalane in many of our formulations.
My thoughts:
Erm. If Malaysia's weather gone down below 18 celcius, I would say this is an awesome facial cream! I was introduced by one of the KCR that this cream works great with dehydrated/dry skin (since I told her myself that my skin was somewhat dehydrated). And this was pretty true as I feel very moisturized after applying this onto my skin. My stubborn skin absorbs pretty well with this one. Oh btw, I used this as my night cream now. =)

However, there's a catch for this one.

I have to rub this moisturizer in between my palms to warm this moisturizer up before applying onto my skin. If this step is not done prior to application, I can feel the cream lingers on top of my skin.

Also, this ultra facial cream does give a little dewy effect. If you dislike those "dewy effect", stay away from this cream. I wouldn't recommend this for day use as well because our face will be super shiny if we top off with sunblock and foundation.

Would I repurchase this? No for the time being. But if I stay under air-con 24/7, then maybe I'll think about it. =)

I couldn't capture the full ingredients for this one but do click onto the first pic on this post, the full ingredients is listed there. ;)

BTW, I'm currently using Kiehl's Yerba Mate Tea Gel Cream as well and I'm lovin' it. Will tell you more in another weeks time. :D

Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Oasis Gel Review

December 31, 2009

Hie hie, this will be my last post of 2009! :D I know many bloggers by now are doing "good bye posts" to 2009 but please bear with me before I greet Happy New Year to everyone! :P

For now, I hope Cellnique doesn't keep everyone "too warm" though. haha.

Im not going to talk about the masque or serum, so don't worry. :D I'm going to review something else that they sent to me earlier this month - Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Oasis Gel.

Intensive Hydrating Oasis Gel was previously known as Oasis Soothing Gel, and do you know that this is the only moisturizer that came in a tube form?! (that's what I noticed in their website HERE). This product is also one of their best seller too! Wow!

This is how it looks like.

I noticed both of their intensive + soothing hydrating masque and the oasis gel has the same packaging.

The back of the tube.

I loved how they package things this way. super hygienic. *thumbs up!*

And their quality seal too! Making sure the tube is not opened. ;)

In case you are wondering how big this is... here's a fun photo for you. :D

Okay, let's get to the main point now. Here's how the gel looks like.

Does it remind you of something??????

haha!!

Don't you think they just looked alike? ....

Well.. maybe not from their packaging! ha!

Anyway, the gel really reminds me of aloe vera when I first used it during my travel to India. It suited the purpose of traveling because of its convinient size (50g), and also a good timing for me to try out whether if this really works under the hot & humid whether in India.

Here's some info about the product from Cellnique.com's website:

It says:-
A soothing and calming, highly concentrated, Aloe vera gel-based formulation designed for all skin types. It is further enhanced with the infusion of witch hazel, horse chestnut, and marine collagen to deliver an ultra-effective moisturizing formula. Contains no diazolidinyl urea.

And this gel helps skin that are:
Dehydration • Sensitive • Open pores • Enlarged pores • Congestion • Scars • Acne • Blackheads and whiteheads

Sound's good right? The pictures below sounded even better!

Aloe Vera Extract

Aloe vera extract has been used for thousands of years to heal burns and injuries. Research has confirmed that the extract has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes wound healing. Due to its polysaccharide and sterol content, Aloe vera acts as a water-binding agent, resulting in soft, smooth and supple skin texture.

Marine Collagen

Marine collagen provides excellent water-binding properties. It works well to promote skin hydration and suppleness.

Witch Hazel Extract

A plant extract with toning and astringent properties. It also helps to promote healing, reduce inflammation and has anti-irritant properties.

Horse Chestnut Extract
Horse chestnut extract acts as an astringent. It also has the ability to stimulate blood flow.

off topic: I didn't know horse chestnut looks like that.. haha :)

The product:

Price:
USD43 @ Cellnique.com or RM129 @ any Cellnique authorized dealers

My thoughts:
I like it! During my first encounter with the oasis gel, I was quite "disgusted" with it. The reason being is because it felt like silicon and the aloe-vera-kind-of-gel leaves a little stickiness behind after application. At that time, I felt like my skin doesn't feel like "absorbing" the gel, leaving the surface feeling "sticky" and "weird". Somehow the feeling just subside after 5-6 times of trying, and that's when I can feel the stickiness "sort of" subside already.

It's very hard to describe how skin care works on every person, but I hope the "skin moisture meter" helps abit here. :)

note: I actually wore this alone after cleansing my face without toner and serum.

This is the "after" result:

Not bad right! The moisture level is still high. BTW, actual skin moist level for every person is usually at least 35% and above)

Cons?
The packaging. Yeah, I know. I said I liked the packaging before but do you know that you have to put this product up-right so that the product can actually flows down to the pump area? I actually thought I used up the gel when I couldn't get the gel out after I came back from India. -_-

Overall, it is an okay product, not something I would loved over my HG moisturizer (haha). I would recommend this to people with normal-dry skin and sensitive skin. But I wouldn't recommend to those with oily skin though as it doesn't have any oil-control properties in there. :)
